Springy Arrow Rest - Rules of Thumb

The springy helps absorb and correct shooting flaws. If you have a bad release (plucking the string) the springy rest will help straighten the arrow and correct the bad release.

If you torque the bow grip (twist the bow or place pressure outside of center) the springy will help to correct this.

If you do both at the same time, many times you will stretch the springy rest out of it’s normal shape. You will have to replace a stretched Springy coil, therefore keep a couple of spares.

This tells you YOU are making more than one mistake while shooting and you need to work on basic form.  See Tom Clum's videos on releasing the string with fingers.    I always go back to shooting blind bale at 2 to 3 yards and work on hand placement and quality of my release most of the time with my eyes closed just working on control.

Replace the springy rest coil with a new springy coil as trying to bend it back - 99 percent of the time does not work well.

Springs are made in the following colors, 10oz (Black ), 15oz (Gold Irodine), 20oz (Cad silver), 25oz (Black), 30oz (cream gold), 35 oz bright silver.

Most archers buy 3 or 4 sizes and then shoot one size for a few days, switch to another size for a few days until they know what weight springy rest works best for them, and group the tightest.

THE CURVED SPRINGY ARM IS LONGER THAN NEEDED TO ACCOMMODATE SMALL AND LARGE ARROW SIZES…CUT OFF THE EXCESS OUTSIDE YOUR ARROW WITH A GOOD PAIR OF DIKES OR CABLE CUTTER.

Recurves 10 to 20 pounds 10oz
15 to 30 pounds 15oz
25 to 40 pounds 20oz
35 to 55 pounds 25 oz
50 to 70 pounds 30 oz.

55 to 75 pounds 35 oz  Although different archer vary in springy coil size through out this list.

Compounds are just about the same although the most popular from 45 to 60 pounds is the 20oz and from 55 to 75 pounds is the 25 oz or 30 oz. and 35 oz

Every archer may/could use a different springy than his buddy both shooting the same poundage and draw length.  I have seen two fellows the same size shoot each other's bow and have to change Springy Coils.

Many of the world records in bowhunter and bowhunter freestyle limited divisions were set with springy rest.

Terry Ragsdale, shooting Men’s Compound Release division shot the first perfect 560 field round with a release in the NFAA National Championships with a 50-60 pound PSE compound, a 20 oz springy rest.

Current National and State rated Championship archers using the Springy Arrow rest are too numerous to mention all of them but here in California Sandy and Gary McCain, Alan Eagleton, Ben Rogers, Pat Norris, and many others shoot only Pat Norris Springy Arrow rest. In Texas, I know two shooters, Bubba Bateman and Ren Sarns, and many others.  Many IFAA International Champions shoot the PNA SPRINGY ARROW REST

Most shops retail the Standard Springy Rest complete with one springy coil for $24.95 Replacement Springy Springs for $4.35 The Stainless Steel Adjustable Micro Springy with one springy coil for $64.95 Springy Arrow Rest.
